PERSONAL PROTECTION FOR EVERYONE
Clinicians working with COVID-19 patients have been using personal protection equipment (PPE) that is not fit for purpose. Face masks protect only part of the face, limit communications and sustained wearing leads to pressure sores. Purified Air Powered Respirators (PAPRs) were designed to be used in industrial settings where the wearer is not expected to communicate with colleagues and patients.
Bubble PAPR has been optimised for use in hospital environments. It protects the user, is comfortable to wear for long periods and allows communication between clinicians and with patients. It is also a cost-effective PPE solution and can be provided to all staff.
Bubble PAPR has been developed by clinicians at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester UK (part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) in collaboration with product designers and engineers at Designing Science and the University of Manchester. It has undergone rigorous testing throughout its development. Prototypes have been tested by staff at the Wythenshawe Hospital, and their feedback has guided the project throughout. The result is Bubble PAPR – personal protection for everyone.
WHY USE BUBBLE PAPR?
Bubble PAPR has multiple benefits over current PPE solutions.

INFECTION CONTROL
Protects the wearer, easy to don and doff. The yoke is easy to clean.
COMFORTABLE TO WEAR
Suitable for wearing over multiple shifts, does not cause bruising, compatible with glasses and facial hair.
FOR EVERYONE
A cost-effective solution, that healthcare systems can provide to all staff.
COMMUNICATION
Allows clear, visual communication between colleagues and patients.
TESTIMONIALS
It is so much cooler than the reusable FFP3 masks we have been using and it doesn’t dig into your face, which is a huge bonus.
